The Cattlemen’s Cut Supper Club is a favorite in the Great Falls area. With such a variety of quality food, there’s something for everyone. It’s a great place for dinner whether be it a special occasion or simply a weeknight out.
Bill took me there on our first Valentine’s Day together, February 14, 2008. We have been there several times since, including Valentine’s Day 2009. The menu offers a variety of choices ranging from simple home-style meals to exquisite Chef specialties. The Chicken Oscar is one of my favorite dinners there. There is an extensive wine list, along with various beer and well drinks to choose from. On Valentine’s Day Bill ordered us a bottle of Asti Spumanti Champagne, my favorite, which was kept chilled table side in a silver Champagne Server. This was a nice romantic touch.
I was looking through March 13th’s edition of the Hot Ticket, which is part of The Great Falls News Tribune. The Taste of Montana section is written by Sharon Hansen. She mentioned several choices for St. Patrick’s Day. Cattleman’s Cut was listed and my choice for St. Patrick’s Day dinner 2009 was easily made. Bill had a business appointment, so I invited my daughter Kizell and my 13 month-old grandson Nathan to join me.
We started the meal off with a traditional green beer each, except for Nathan, who had apple juice in his sippy cup. Zell and I ordered the St. Patrick’s Day Special. The special included your choice of soup or salad bar. The salad bar there is excellant. Our taste buds were dancing as Dawn, our waitress, set our dinners in front of us!
In addition to it’s tantalizing fragrance, the special was presented in true Irish tradition. Served in a large shallow bowl resting on a plate, were succulent thick slices of corned beef laid on top of a very chunky Irish stew. The stew was perfectly seasoned and included whole baby carrots, large potato pieces, onions, capers, and white cabbage. There was a nice slice of ryebread of the side. No wee little portions here! There was an abundance of flavorful food. Nathan seemed to like the corned beef the best. Julie Meyer, the Cattlemen’s Cut owner, told me that they started the corned beef the night before to insure it’s desired tenderness, in which they most definitely succeeded!
Dawn shared the dessert choices with us. Zell requested Chocolate Lava Cake. What a gorgeous presentation! A chocolate lovers dream! She said it was very decadent! I shared creamy Huckleberry Ice Cream with whipping cream on top with Nate. Huckleberries are a favorite and found in numerous ‘Made in Montana’ items.
The St. Patrick’s Day special is what brought us to The Cattlemen’s Cut that night. However, Dave Williams was there with some friends for his birthday. After dinner they surprised him with a homemade Birthday cake shaped like a large cupcake with a candle on top. It was a vanilla cake, dyed green, and covered with an orange marmalade frosting. Very creative! They seemed to be enjoying their time together, and I thank them again for letting me interrupt briefly to take take a picture and wish him a Happy Birthday.
Separated from the restaurant on the opposite side of the building is a bar with several tables and some slot machines. You may also order food from the restaurant menu and eat inside there. We have stopped by there for a couple of drinks and an appetizer several times.
