Looking for a fun way to begin your Saturday morning?  The Farmer’s Market in Great Falls is it!  The look and fragrance of  Spring welcoming Summer is everywhere!  Scrumptious treats including  Porkies, the fragrant and flavorful grilled pork bites on a stick; a variety of cookies, pastries, pies and breads just like Grandma use to make, and the tantalizing smell of fresh-brewed coffee are just some of the treats available.   There’s even a Cotton Candy Booth, filling the air with a sticky sweetness that attracts kids of all ages!

There is plenty of entertainment throughout the Market.   Several musicians perform at different areas.  June 23, 2009 a group of 4 young people jamming together near the Porkies grill caught my attention. 4-person-jam-session All 4 were talented.  The teen singing had a great voice and playing the guitar seemed to come naturally for him.  I asked him what the name of the group was so I could add their name to this article.  His quick and sincere reply astounded me.  He said, “We don’t have one.  Some of us just met today”.  They were simply a group of talented kids that were capable of doing what many of us dream about; they could join in with other musicians and turn a musical jam into a memorable performance!  Left to right are Scott Matson, Julia Heinen, Matt Keller, and Jake Dickson.

In July,  Pretty One Productions presents GREASE The Broadway Musical, at The Mansfield Center for Performing Arts.  Shows are scheduled for July 9-11 and 15th-18th.  The cast will be giving a little glimpse of the Musical each Saturday at the Farmer’s Market up to the show date.  Go to the Gallery for a couple of shots of their performance at the Farmer’s Market taken June 13, 2009.  For more information call (406) 455-8514, or click on Pretty One Productions.

As for fresh produce the Farmer’s Market has it all!   Pepper plants, tomato plants, hanging flower baskets and lots off herbs and spices are ready for you to take home to start your own garden.  If, like me, you don’t have space or time to img_2873grow your own, you can get a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits to take home.  Today we saw snow peas, cucumbers, yellow onions,  green onions, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, green beans, asparagus, rhubarb, apples and cherries!  The variety was overwhelming!  Yum!  Hillside Gardens, out of Great Falls, shows off a lovely selection of their plants including peppers, veggies, annuals & perennials.

Delightful squeals and giggles can be heard as children watch the Ponies, awaiting their turn to ride.  In fact,  the joyous sound of small ones seem to float throughout the Farmer’s Market, as they discover so much beauty each place they look.

Crafts booths decorate the area.  Today I enjoyed looking at Shannon’s All Natural Products including incense, essence oils and flax seed heat pillows.   The relaxing wares at this booth are the creativity of a delightful husband and wife team.

A little further up the path was Beth Enloe Pottery.  The morning sunlight created natural spotlights on her collection of pottery.  She too is a local artist.

Brandon, from Rocky Mountain Carvings was there with carvings for the home and yard.  He makes an adorable black bear on a swing that caught the eye of many people there.  He is located out of Conrad, Montana and will be returning most weeks to the Great Falls, Farmer’s Market.

The Farmer’s Market in Great Falls is a great way to get your senses going on a Saturday morning.  Get up early, and experience some of our local talents, whether they are performers, crafts-persons, cooks or farmers!

The Farmer’s Market opens at 7:45AM each Saturday beginning the first Saturday in June, through the last Saturday in September.   Farmer’s Market is also open on Wednesday evenings from 4:30PM – 6:30PM.
